Happy Veteran's Day! Thank you.
Are there any Veteran's on here besides me? If so, what was your branch and years of service?
Walking Tall -- U.S. Air Force (1982-1990)
Ego, On your profile you list yourself as 100 years old. I guess with that military record dating,
you actually are...lol
I'll be 60 on the 24'th.
Never made it to the military, was a student at the time when they did that lottery...I won.
Congratulations to you and all Veterans.
Pipa, not quite a 100, got another lifetime to go... No draftees in the Corps, only volunteers in those days... some of us join the military to avoid the draft ... strange logic but it worked... LOL
This veterans day made me revisit something i wrote and painted when the United States invaded Iraq on March 20, 2003:
The Unicorn’s Forgotten Bones
Our tale is told with empty words lingering on deeds
that never crossed the distance and found shroud still.
Like a thousand killing cuts we watch yesterdays
one by one in silence along the passage of desolation
only to find there our stories without journey or end.
Stories where ancestral voices pass unheard
whispering secrets obscured by thoughts
not found in the soul’s dream.
A dream where Hummingbird wings can rest
and the Waterfalls sing
while Unicorns play raising
the spirits of the children - first voices to laugh
echoing forever.
But youthful wings too soon clipped,
never notice the Unicorn’s forgotten bones.
So with eyes wide shut and wilted hearts
we gather around patriot graves without resurrection
while our good guardians pretend their morals
and litter the fantasies of our children,
who play upon the dead...
spreading the disease of war.
Wow...Ego...that is so good! It's sad but good. Thank you for sharing that.
Egotarian: You never seem to fail to amaze me! Liked the painting, but since it is abstract I may not understand it 100%. I really really liked the poem accompanying the painting, however. Remember Cheney? Former CEO of Halburton? I watched him place a wreath on the grave of the unknown soldier at Arlington Cemetery yesterday, and it made me angry. He had something like 11 consecutive and diverse deferments when we had a draft during the Vietnam era. Then he was the brains behind the invasions of Iraq, never mind that he was former CEO and massive shareholder of Halburton, a no-bid defense contractor. This guy has absolutely no business conducting what should have been a job for George Bush on Veteran's Day. At least Obama was very responsive and aware of the fact that he was never active military, and with him was the lady who from veteran's affairs, a gal who lost both of her legs in Iraq. They placed a wreath on the monument to military who paid the ultimate sacrifice for their country at Soldier Field in Chicago. Damn, I sure hope we start playing heads-up ball from now on, our adult children as well as our treasure are being squandered, time and time again in senseless ill-conceived conflicts that only benefit gunboat diplomacy foreign policy or special interests. Had to come here for a little relief.Ive been posting at SW,but feel like a redheaded stepchild.
red hair or no red hair, you are the best, Polliesboy. jmo JunkyardDog
Thank you sir.Your too kind.Im a little embarassed.I try to take an approach of if its not broke dont fix it.Why would anyone want to change what Clinton achieved unless it didn`t fit their personal agenda. For years I heard the republicans use the campaign plank about balancing the budget, yet if they were elected they continued to turn in record deficits.Clinton is the first president in at least 100 years to achieve a balanced budget. He even surpassed that milestone & gave us a surplus. Why cant they grasp the idea that you have to earn as much as you spend.Revenues can only be achieved by the government one way.Taxes.A lot of people get blinded by rage with the mention of tax increase. Its usually they people that have more than everyone else that are the most offended. They want the lavish life with no check at the end of the meal.Maybe I have never been greedy, but if I could have earned a $100K per year they could gladly had $35K.$65K net would have been good money in this area.
I just ran across a interesting statistic.35% of the labor force in the U.S is managerial or professional. Our Labor force for 2008 was 154 million people, this includes the unemployed(6.5%).This means their is less than 2 employees for every boss.No damn wonder we get nothing done.
LOL..Pollie that about sums up what Paulson said! He is an extremely irritating public speaker.
Redheaded step child huh? :( Do you have those cute little freakles that redheads have on their face?:P LOL I have enjoyed having you mix it up with them. They need your different opinions there, whether they know it or not. :) IMO
His wife huh! Nothing better than a great wife to tell ya the truth! :P
I had alot of hope and faith in Bush the first four..the second four...don't know what the hell happened. Pollie's theory (I think it was Pollie) of the alzheimers or something like that may be more true than we know. It would certainly explain some things. LOL
Folks Im going to be hard pressed to hold on to my place, but will be OK nonetheless. What Im wondering about is being shit head reneged on his promised bailout for borrowers. What is going to happen to the millions of people that will be put on the street because of forclosures? There are going to be miions of houses forclosed on,but the number of people that will be homeless will be tens of millions.Thats just figuring three people to the house. Many will be four or five to the house. All the children that will not have a roof over their heads of something to eat or no christmas. But lets remember that the bankers needed their bonuses & trips to the resorts on money gave to them by Paulson(Bushes #1 man). The worst of the situation is nothing will be done for them until Obama gets to office. This has completely broke me up of ever considering voting for a republican for the rest of my life.Them greedy hard hearted selfish rich loving worthless pigs.Im not taking about all the dumb asses that vote for them, only the ones that know the difference. Most of them are too damn dumb to be allowed to vote.Their researh is reading right wing emails from a bunch of stupid radicals that are full of hatred for anyone thats not a white southern baptist or catholic.Their rewards are waiting at judgement day.The bible says a rich man has as much chance of entering the kingdom of heaven as a camel fitting through the eye of a needle. So go ahead & worship Rush Limbaugh & Bill O`Reilly.BTW these two have not a care about you,Rush made $24million in 07 & O`Reilly made $10million.These guys dont even believe have of what they say their ownselves. They are paid to sell commercials on the air.Just like Howard Stern they thrive by promoting controversy. They could care less about the truth. That why they always run a disclaimer that their views are only theirs & not to be mistaken with company views.
Tgirl,I said dementia.Im not sure he didnt fry his brains with drugs & alcohol. He was a heavy drinker & had a nasty mouth rivaled only by his nasty disposition.I was skeptical of him long before his election. He had made many statements entertaining the thought of dealing with China over issues with Taiwan.I seen the harbinger of war in his tone & demeanor. He made his statements of the heroic status of being a wartime president.People will not take the time to keep up on politics & possible canidates. If they did only a faction of radicals would vote for this type of ideological posturing. How can you trust someone that crave the attention of war & people dying on his behest?I had no misconceptions about this dude from the get-go.I told everyone I knew when he was running in 2000 about his words.
