Pollie..I am just catching up on posts of the day. I applaud this post of yours. It is a simple and to the point statement that I love. In my opinion either you are a believer or not. That simple! The names of Catholic, Methodist, Protestant, Mormon, Baptist....all man given labels/names to separate ourselves from each other into our own "cliques" defined by how we choose or the leader of the church chooses to interpret the bible. Why use the labels to put ourselves into a "category" of believer?
When I attended church, I asked a few ministers ...Why can't we just call ourselves a child of God? After all...that is truly who we are in his eyes. Isn't that all that really matters? I never got a real answer.
Hope it was a good day.

may we respecfully agree to disagree...
The Roman Catholic Church has an unbroken line of successors to Saint Peter, the "Rock" upon which Jesus built his Church. Peter was the first Apostle to openly acknowledge Jesus Christ as the "Son of God".
When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? And they said, Some [say that thou art] John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets. He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed [it] unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. (Matthew 16:13-19)
The rest of you folks (Methodist, Lutheran, Presbyterian, Anglican, Episcopalian, Baptist (37 flavors), Reformed, etc.) are simply a bunch of malcontents and miscreants with a burr under yer saddle and a bug up yer azz.
Oh Pollie, BTW... Jesus never said one single word about NOT building a Temple to his Heavenly Father, instead he encouraged the idea. However, he took a mighty dim view of people turning the Temple into something other then was is was built for...
"And the Jews' passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. And found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting: And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers' money, and overthrew the tables; And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father's house an house of merchandise" (John 2:13-16).
Any other questions? I'd be delighted to get into a theological discussion this evening, particularly since I'm not feeling very ecumenical...
