polliesboy: wow what a blast from the past, the chicago tribune announcing that dewey beat truman. late returns from obscure precincts changed everything, and frankly the tribune editors should never have put the paper to bed in that climate. polliesboy, hopefully you are aware that the chicago tribune endorseed barack obama last sunday. that is a very big deal, because in the paper's 161 year history they previously had never endorsed a democrat. my homwtown paper in the city where i was born & raised. my dad would never read the chicago sun times, which he considered to be tabloid journalism and in the pockets of organized labor and the original richard j. daley political machine. tribune hard copies are sold all the way through indianapolis, so the story may influence many. junkyarddog

JYD,I just became aware of the endorsement issue several weeks ago.I heard it on TV.One of the biggest issues of this campaign to me is seeing McCain disgrace himself with his deceitful tactics & downright lies.He is not just bending the truth.Him & Palin are actually the dirtiest I have ever witnessed. Its demeaning. He claims its because Obama wouldnt do town hall with him. What if Obama wanted him to do the hoods with him.You know these sexual relationships have two sides. You can`t expect one side to take the screwing all the time.LOL.Where is this going to leave McCain on Nov 5th if he loses. He`s going all in & burning his bridges.

polliesboy & confederates: omg, i just saw a tv event wherein sarah palin was talking to a 2nd grade class. a boy asked her what the job of the vice president job was. she said that "the vice president is in charge of running the u.s. senate." omg.....this isn't funny anymore, not only is she unqualified to possibly take over as president but also mccain's judgment in selecting her for vice presidental running mate is seriously at issue. it completely offsets and cancels out mccain's allegation that obama is inexperienced. we are looking more and more like buffoons in the eyes of european and asian leaders who are carefully monitoring this election. mccain has a common flyboy character flaw...he never really led men in battle, but was a narcissistic "hot dog." like maverick in top gun, so much talent potential, but unfit 2 lead. later we will learn that colin powell turned mccain down when asked to run as v.p. candidate. powell got started as an r.o.t.c. officer, not via an admiral father's shoehorning a son into naval academy. colin powell led a batallion of the 101st airborne in vietnam, a real job under bigtime adversity. god save the united states, and our honorable courts....junkyarddog

Well Tgirl,It just goes to prove you dont have to be a D.C insider to know how to pad the expense account. She never learned much else about being a insider, but learned how to feather her nest.

JYD,I read Colin Powells bio years ago.Very impressive inspiring story. He was passed over many times because of color.Instead of being bitter he knuckled down & worked harder.Yes we are under the scrutiny of the whole world.McCain being allowed to run such a intimidation & smear campaign will not bode well with the eyes of the world. We who tout & laud the advantages of democracy vs tyranny of the aparthied states of Africa. Are we really setting a example or just talking the talk.Aparently as I have stated many times, the constitution is only here for the democrats to adhere to.the GOP is above he common laws of the lower classes in their evaluation. They damn sure violate it enough. This is not just a trait of Bush.It is indicative of the GOP.

JYD,Any 10th grader should know the role of the VP.Why doesn`t she?
Wonder if she can wink her way out of that one.Maybe she could consult Joe Six Pack or Joe the plumber.

McCain, jump on Bidens remark about being tested by an international crisis in Obamas six months. He says that Obama choice of Powell is proof of his inexperience as CNC.He said he sat on the flight deck of a carrier with a target during the cuban missle crisis. Now tell me one damn thing. How does being a pilot give you the knowledge of detente.Christ he was being told what to do,he made no decission on his own.Every time he made a decission onhis own it cost us another aircraft. He crashed 3 planes in the before going to Nam,where he lost another & set the war out in Hanoi as a prisoner of war.Im sorry for the torture he endured by cruel captors, but that in no way gives you any special ability to run a country.I hate saying those things, but he brandishes his war record like its the highest degree of education in all aspects of life that you could possibly achieve.I have lots of friends & family that served in Nam & have purple hearts & scars to prove it.Some didnt come back. They none felt it a qualification to be president. They also don`t remind us daily. Most of them you can tell by their psyhical disabilities.

More Than a Two-Person Race
Corporate media largely ignore other presidential candidates

The major-party race for the White House has been the subject of broad media attention for more than a year, the corporate media have mostly ignored at least four substantial third-party and independent candidates for the presidency.

Green Party candidate Cynthia McKinney and Libertarian candidate Bob Barr are both former congress members from the state of Georgia. Their presence in the White House race, along with independent candidate Ralph Nader and Constitution Party candidate Chuck Baldwin, would seem to present an interesting counterpoint to the major-party race between Barack Obama and John McCain. While the corporate press has apparently decided that the differences between Obama and McCain are more or less the only political opinions worth exploring this election season, the third-party and independent candidates take positions on issues like drug war policy, Israel-Palestine, civil liberties and military intervention that differ markedly from the views of either major-party candidate.

According to a Nexis news database search of the major network newscasts, McKinney's name has never been mentioned this year on the networks' news programs, while Barr and Nader's candidacies have garnered a total of only 31 mentions between them (15 times on ABC, 12 times on NBC and 4 on CBS). Including the Fox network--which airs Fox News Sunday on its broadcast affiliates--yields one passing mention of Nader, and an interview with Barr (6/29/08). PBS's News Hour with Jim Lehrer offered passing mentions of Nader and Barr when they announced their candidacies (2/25/08, 5/12/08); more recently, the show has interviewed each of them one-on-one More Than a Two-Person Race

A March 4 report on ABC's Good Morning America discussed the presidential election with a panel of children, one of whom asked, "There's like another thing, there's a guy named something Nader…. I think he's either running for the Green Party or the independents." ABC correspondent Chris Cuomo misinformed the children by saying "Green Party."

The main question media tend to pose about third-party candidates is whether or not they will impact the outcome of the election. This is not at all surprising, given corporate media's preference for focusing on the horse race aspect of politics. The lesser-known candidates' generally low standing in the polls appears to make it less likely that they will play a decisive role on Election Day, but the media's refusal to open up the political conversation makes this outcome more or less a self-fulfilling prophecy.

egotarian: the republican national committee has confirmed it spent $150k of donated money for sarah palin's wardrobe....but tutoring might have been a better investment. she is not in charge of the u.s. senate, like she told the 2nd grader on live t.v. ex-wife willing to lose weight and get back to size 4, plus become a republican, if she gets the lightly-used clothes! ha ha ha ha ha ha ha junkyarddog

I think we do more DD on some of these small Pinky stocks than McCain did on picking his
running mate. He probably knew it was a roll of the dice.
